CLOTHING REQUIRED FOR LESSONS--Winter & Summer
WINTER
Layer your clothing...
- Bottom Half
- Thermal long underwear
- Long pants: cotton jogging pants or fleece pants (denims can be cold)
- Insulated riding pants or snow pants or ski pants
- Top Half
- Thermal top
- Long sleeved polo neck
- Long sleeved rugby shirt
- Sweater
- Down filled body warmer
- Overcoat
- Feet
- Winter riding boots--buy large so you can fit thick socks in and your feet have room to move.
- Snow boots--they need to have smooth sole and small heel.
- Long wool socks
- Hands
- Thermatex gloves or mittens--you are best buying ones made for riding. You can get mittens that allow for the rein to be passed between the 3rd and little finger.
- Head
- RIDING HELMETS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.
- Neck tube--I get mine from the Dollar Store.
- Ears--you can get covers that clip over the ears.
- Hat cover--goes over your riding helmet. You should not wear a hat under your riding helmet as your helmet needs to fit your head.
You can also get Hot Paws to use in your gloves and boots. Remember you can always remove layers if you are too hot.
SUMMER
- Bottom half--Riding pants.
If you do not have riding pants then loose fitting long pants. Cotton is good; nylon can slide on the saddle so it is not recommended.
- Top half--T-shirt or Polo Shirt.
No crop tops or bikini tops. Bring a sweater in case it turns cold and also a lightweight jacket.
- Head--Riding helmets must be worn at all times
while mounted on any horse or pony while on Charleston Lake Riding School property. You may rent a helmet from Charleston Lake Riding School for $0.50 per lesson.
- Footwear--Riding boots.
If you do not have riding boots, then your footwear should have a smooth sole (this allows your feet to move in the stirrup) and a small heel (this stops your foot from going too far into the stirrup). They must completely enclose the foot. No sandles or sneakers.
